So many country restaurants pay lip service to the idea of regionality, but Noojee's Outpost Retreat is the real deal. The menu's front page boasts a lengthy list of all the good and diverse local stuff that chef John Snelling tracks down and puts to excellent use in his remotely located restaurant. There's little doubt the concept - and the hard work - is paying off. The large, rustic dining room with its almost honey country styling (complete with faux veranda over the bar) is usually packed with a convivial crowd being well looked after by competent, enthusiastic floor staff.
The Chef - John Snelling
John Snelling has worked a number of International Class restaurants over the years, including 13 years at Café Di Stasio in St.Kilda, and was the head chef for 7 of those years.
John and Barb purchased The Outpost Retreat in July 2003 and have been very involved in bringing the restaurant up to the highest standard. All food and desserts are cooked on the premises and the menu is large and varied, focusing predominantly on local produce...including of course - Gregory's Red Angus quality beef
