Gregory's Red Angus (GRA) is a family owned farming enterprise that supplies quality Red Angus Beef to Restaurants, gourmet retail outlets and the public throughout Victoria. We operate three properties in West Gippsland at Crossover, Rokeby and Buln Buln, where we share 420 acres of rolling hills and lush green grass with our 250 beautiful Red Angus cows.
Chris and I are both from non farming backgrounds, I originally from Canberra and Chris from Drouin- nearby. We were both drawn to the West Gippsland area by the beauty of the district and the agricultural quality of the land.
After a short and unsatisfying period of trying to farm in the traditional fashion, Chris and I both came to the realisation that we had it wrong.
I was unhappy with the economic rewards that we were getting for our efforts and Chris was deeply distressed about the way in which our animals were being handled to conform with traditional farming methods and market objectives. There had to be more to farming than this!
After a period of reflection and introspection we have refocussed our objectives towards what we both realised was important to us - animal welfare. Chris was adamant that if she was going to have a farm full of cows then they needed to have the same wonderful life as all the other animals in her life. I was adamant that quality and flavour were the real measures of successful farming. Over time we both came to appreciate the positives of each other's objectives.
It soon became apparent that we had discovered the secret that many old farmers already knew, A HAPPY COW = A HAPPY FARMER !!. By concentrating on this basic principle and on the quality of what we feed our animals we have been able to produce real old fashion flavoursome quality meat , whilst providing an ethical and enjoyable life for all animals that live on our farms.
If you care about animal welfare or you just care about the quality of what you eat then give us a call, talk to the person that produces you're food – at Gregory's Red Angus you'll be pleasantly surprised. |
